My Favorite Things - Challenge 16

Whew! This challenge was definitely that - a challenge! For challenge #16 over at Whimsical Scraps and Bugs, we asked the DT members to create a project of any type that answered the question of, "Why do you scrap?" The only requirement was to use their Cricut in some way on the project.

For this challenge, I decided to do something I had never done before - scrap without a photo. I have seen examples of this, as well as always read about it in my various scrap mags, but had never been courageous enough to try it. I really wanted to capture something different about why I scrap for this project, and decided to do a 12x12 layout.

I started out with an old book that I ripped the cover off of and just went from there. I made two vintage looking flowers out of some very old fabric I had laying around & some buttons. I also found a crocheted square that I believe my mother made years ago and just loved adding that element. Then, I just went crazy with doodling, splatter painting, stamping and writing.

The paper used was K&Co. from their Wild Saffron line. I also used some DCWV for the word, things, which I also cut with the Opposites Attract cartridge. I used black ink from StampCraft and the stamps are a variety of Making Memories, SU, and Studio G. The rub-ons are Color-bok and American Traditional Designs.

This layout was waaaayyy outside the box for me and not normally something I would've done, but I am glad I did it. I hope you all enjoy it and don't forget to check out the other projects, and our next challenge, over at Whimsical Scraps and Bugs!

Symbol of My Love

Hey Everyone! Sorry it has been a few days since I posted last! The whole family has not been feeling well and I was oh so lucky enough to get the worst of it, but thankfully I am starting to feel better and I wanted to get a layout up that I did a week or so ago of my dear hubby.

The pics are from our recent NASCAR trip to Texas Motor Speedways in April. The top one was taken in Grapevine at Bass Pro Shops and the bottom was while he was driving that morning and the sun was rising. He hates the top pic, but I like it and I love the bottom one!

My Cricut was involved in the making of this layout which is actually kind of rare for me! The base paper is by My Mind's Eye, while the other papers are by The Paper Studio and DCWV. The chipboard is American Crafts, which I distressed with coffee ink, & Basic Grey, which I painted black. I used SU Robin Hood Red ink to stamp the bird, which is Studio G. The flower is Petaloo and the pearl strand is by Wright. The chipboard button is DCWV and the rub-ons are Basic Grey and American Traditional Designs. I cut some letters out of a newspaper for part of the title and the little adhesive pearl in the center of the flower is from Target's $1 Spot. Not sure who makes the heart shaped brads since I got them in a swap. I used my Glue Glider Pro on this project as well as pop dots. I also used my SU scallop border punch on the side of the red vintage looking V-Day paper, but it didn't show up very well in the photo!

I really like how this layout turned out even if my hubby hates that particular photo of him. I hope you like it too!

Challenge 15 Project

Well for the challenge we gave our DT over at Whimsical Scrap and Bugs, we decided to use a Mojo Monday sketch that could be used for either a card or a layout. They also had to incorporate their fav lyric, quote, scripture, etc. into the project while also using their Cricut! I chose to do a card for the project and I also decided on a whim to submit that card for publication. And guess what! The amazing people over at Scrapbook News & Review chose my card for their upcoming issue!! Yay, me!!! (doing the happy dance - hehehe)

I wish, wish, wish I could share my project with everyone, but they have asked that I not publish anywhere for at least 30 days. Therefore, I can't even post it on the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs site either. But, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that I had completed the challenge and exactly what was going on. I will make sure to share it with you as soon as I can. I will tell you that the card involves nature and a sweet little song lyric.

So, in the meantime, please visit the DT site and check out all the cool cards and layouts the ladies came up with this time. They are always amazing and I love what they do!! Also, make sure to check out the site for our next challenge too - it is gonna be a fun one!! Hope you can play along too!

When Nature Attacks

Finally got the chance to work with my DCWV Green Stack some more and I am still just lovin' that paper! The colors are great and it is just too cute. Plus, I don't have to feel so guilty since it is recycled! LOL!
These photos crack me up everytime I see them. They were taken on the University of Texas campus in Austin last August. TJ and I had walked to the car to get something out. On our way back from the parking garage this squirrel just runs at us out of nowhere. I started cracking up, but my son got all freaked out! He was convinced the squirrel was stalking him and going to "jump" him! LOL!! It was too funny so naturally I pulled out my camera and got a few quick shots before TJ took off running.....from a squirrel. When I was doing this layout he came in the room and said, "that is the squirrel that tried to attack me. Man, he was psycho!" I still can't quite convince him that the squirrel was probably just really, really used to people and was hoping we would feed it. I never have mentioned to him that I too thought I might have caught a devilish gleam in the little critter's eyes!

I used the George cart for the word 'attack' and Opposites Attract for the rest of the title. All the paper is by DCWV, except for the green gingham, which is by Making Memories, and the black cardstock, it is by Bazzill. The cute little bear is some Basic Grey adhesive chipboard I painted, as is the arrow, and the grass I cut myself. Pop-dotted it all for 3-D effect. The circle I cut using my Cuttlebug. Not sure who the ribbon is by since I got it in a swap, but I did use my white Sakura pen to dot the word 'when' and the word 'nature' event though it didn't show up that well in the photo. The journaling tag is Heidi Swapp and was in the V-Day can I got from Snoflak. Thanks sweetie! Oh, I also used a Page Maps template for this layout - gotta love Page Maps!

Hoping to get another layout done soon that deals with yet another squirrel story and my son. It's a little happy, a little sad, but super sweet. Maybe I will get it done next week because bright and early in the morning we are off to the races. NASCAR here we come!!!!

Challenge #11 - Spring Card

Okay, for the Whimsical Scraps & Bugs challenge we had to do several things. We asked our DT members to create either a layout, card or altered item using only black & white. They were allowed to use one other color, sparingly, and had to include the word SPRING, cut with their Cricut. They also had to include some bling! I decided to do a card for the challenge and while I wasn't sure about it after I first completed it, the card is growing on me and I actually like it quite a bit!

I used the Opposites Atrract cartridge to cut the word, SPRING. The paper is a combination of Bazzill, The Paper Studio and generic white cardstock. Not sure who the bling is by, but the ribbon is from Michael's. I colored in three of the flowers on the patterned paper with a gel pen and also used my Sakura Gelly Roll pen in white for the dots on the letters. Oh, and I also heavily pop dotted the letters!

I hope you make it a point to go see all the wonderful creations our DT came up with for this challenge. They always do a great job. Hope you also decide to play along with us too! We would love to see everyone's take on the challenge!

Challenge #10 - Butterfly Wishes Card

Here is a card I made for Challenge #10 on the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs site. We had a sketch courtesy of 2sketches4you and it was a 3-2-1 challenge: three patterned papers, two embellishments, and one flower cut from any Cricut cartridge. We could do either a card or a layout.

I used a flower cut from the Home Accents cartridge & that is also what I used to cut the butterfly. The papers are American Crafts and Bazzill. I also inked the edges of the papers and pop-dotted the butterfly and the background papers. The greeting is Stampin' Up!

Hope you like this card and all the other wonderful creations the Design Team members came up with. Don't forget to check them out!
